Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) is ever present around us. Every time you walk on the carpet, you may generate several kilovolts of static electricity. Objects around us create static electricity as they move as well. While the static charge by itself may cause nothing more than a bad hair day, most of the problems are caused by discharge. Electrostatic discharge (often called ESD Event) creates excessive current. ESD Event is also an electromagnetic phenomenon. Rapid change in static voltage and short burst of current create very strong electromagnetic field that can cause malfunction in electronic equipment, disrupt wireless communication and physically destroy such miniature parts as GMR heads for disk drives and semiconductors. In short, ESD Event is not a happy occasion. |

Credence Technologies manufactures a line of products that help to monitor ESD Events, measure their magnitude, locate ESD Event sources and help to prevent equipment malfunction caused by ESD Events and strong electromagnetic emission. |
